The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on Interstate 40 southwest of Kingman to expect daytime lane restrictions beginning Tuesday, May 28, through the end of October as crews replace the top pavement surface on a 14-mile segment of the interstate.

  

 

The following restrictions will be in place Mondays through Fridays beginning Tuesday, May 28, from 3 a.m. to 8 p.m:

  • I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between Holy Moses Wash and Walnut Creek (mileposts 33-47). 

  • A 14-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while construction is underway.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation is preparing for a May through October 2024 construction project to replace the riding surface along a 14-mile section of Interstate 40 southwest of Kingman in Mohave County (mileposts 33-47). Several construction activities, including bridge repair and installing new guardrail, are underway until the paving.

Work includes:

  • Milling and paving the roadway.
  • Replacing and installing new embankment curb, drainage features and guardrail.
  • Bridge repair.
  • Lane striping and other related work.

 

What to expect during construction

  • Lane restrictions will be in effect throughout construction.
  • Motorists should be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment while the lane restrictions are in place.

 

Project Schedule

Work started fall 2023 and is expected to be completed early 2025. 

Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.
