Larry Woods, Maricopa County District 4

Larry WoodsBackground

Larry Woods is one of the “pioneers” in Computer Science, having received his MS in Computer Science from Purdue University in 1967.  Thus began a long career in various areas of Information Technology which included operating a computer software company, board membership of Archives, one of the early computer manufacturers, and designing a banking network for the Banque Nationale de Paris, the largest commercial bank in Paris, France.  Larry also holds the distinction of being internationally known as one of the early promoters of “Distributed Computing,” the pre-Personal Computer concept of connecting computers via a precursor of what is today known as the Internet.  With the advent of the PC and the creation of the Web, the distribution of computing power is now the accepted method of automation.

Larry and his wife Diane moved to Scottsdale in 1998, after finishing a career at Deere and Company, where he held various IT management positions.  Since moving to the Valley Larry continues his dual interests in IT and civic engagements.  Larry carries on his interest in computing by operating a web development business, including pro bono development for many community support organizations including Interfaith Cooperative Ministries and Make a Difference.
