The Arizona Department of Transportation will close the right lane of westbound Interstate 10 west of the State Route 90 interchange in Cochise County on Friday (Aug, 19) to pave newly constructed lanes that will become part of I-10 as part of an improvement project at this junction.
The closure will be from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday and will begin seven-tenths of a mile west of Exit 302 and continue for slightly more than one mile. The remaining travel lane through the closure area will be restricted to vehicles less than 14-feet in width.
The closure will allow ADOT crews to pave the new lanes north of I-10 that will ultimately be used for westbound interstate traffic, eliminating an existing curving section of highway in that area.
In the short term, the lanes will serve as a temporary entrance ramp onto westbound I-10 from the interchange at SR 90. Traffic is scheduled to begin using that temporary entrance ramp in late August.
The work is part of a two-year, $27.6 million project to replace the overpass at I-10 and SR 90 and eliminate the curving section of I-10 west of Exit 302.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
