Interstate 17
| McGuireville Traffic Interchange Construction |
The Arizona Department of Transportation began construction to improve the Interstate 17 and McGuireville Traffic Interchange in October 2008. Work is underway and is expected to be complete in Spring 2010. Improvements include:
- Widening northbound and southbound I-17 between Mile posts (MP) 292.93 and 293.62.
- Widening Dry Beaver Creek Bridges.
- Replacing bridge decks.
- Extending the existing entrance and exit ramps.
- Constructing retaining walls.
- Milling and repaving the roadway.
- Replacing guardrails, signage, lighting, and pavement markers.
Lane closures and restriction on Interstate 17 through the construction zone are common as crews reconstruct the bridges and entrance and exit ramps. Speeds through the construction zone have been lowered to 45 miles per hour and are strictly enforced for the protection of other motorists and crew members. The left southbound lane has less than the posted clearance height of 14’ 8”. Vehicles over 14’ 3” in height should use the right lane until the new bridge is completed.
Weekly construction eUpdates are available.
ADOT is committed to the safety of the public during all construction projects and would like to remind the community that construction zones are not meant for pedestrians and bicyclists. Please do not walk, run, or bicycle near these areas. Please remember to drive slowly through construction zones to help keep the zone safe.
