The Arizona Department of Transportation will have ongoing lane closures on State Route 86 west of Robles Junction over the next several weeks from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, Monday through Thursday, until early spring. A future traffic alert will notify the community when the lane closures will conclude.
The work is part of the four-mile long road improvement project on State Route 86 between San Pedro and Viopuli Road (MP 137 and MP 141) on the Tohono O'odham Nation.
The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph in the work zone and a construction vehicle will lead alternating traffic through the single open lane during work hours. Shoulders are restricted and drivers are cautioned to stay on the roadway and obey the speed limit.
As part of ADOT's continued investment along SR 86, this $6 million project includes expanding the roadway shoulders for enhanced safety, applying a new, smooth driving surface and installing drainage features along the project area.
The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.
The construction schedule is subject to change due to a variety of reasons, including weather, material availability and mechanical difficulties. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through or near work zones with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
