Lone Mountain Road Traffic Interchange (I-17/Loop 303) I-17 Improvements Map
Project Summary: New diamond traffic interchange (interim connection to Loop 303 Freeway)
Development Phase:

Construction
Length: N/A
Schedule: Regional Transportation Plan Phase I (2006-2010)
Construction began in spring 2008 and is expected to be completed in spring 2010.

Budget:   $30 million (construction)

Project Details:

ADOT is constructing a new traffic interchange at Lone Mountain Road to link Interstate 17 (Black Canyon Freeway) to the future Loop 303. The Lone Mountain Road interchange, which is approximately 2 miles south of SR 74 (Carefree Highway) will serve as the interim connection between I-17 and Loop 303 until completion of the freeway-to-freeway interchange.

As part of the first five-year phase of the Regional Transportation Plan, Loop 303 is being extended west of I-17, initially as a four-lane divided highway.

Interstate 17 has been elevated by approximately 25 feet in this area to accommodate the future freeway-to-freeway traffic interchange.

Future frontage road configurations and access locations are being considered as part of the project.

Traffic Management During Construction:

ADOT intends to keep two lanes open in each direction during peak periods, wherever possible.
