The Southwest Valley Area
The Southwest Valley has seen unprecedented growth in the past ten years. With the current traffic congestion and future growth potential, the Southwest Valley regional freeway system needs to be expanded.
Current and future freeway projects include the construction of capacity improvements along Interstate 10 with funding for the first portion of the project being accelerated in April 2006. Improvements to the region include the planning of State Route 801, which covers the area from 55th Avenue to Perryville Road, Lower Buckeye to Southern Avenue.
The anticipated construction schedule is 2021 to 2025. Potential alignments for the Loop 303 are also being studied, including an examination of future traffic demand, linkages with State Route 801, and future freeway developments south of State Route 801.
Also included in the Southwest Valley area is the South Mountain Corridor Study that would connect Interstate 10 south of Phoenix with Interstate 10 west of the city.
