As a component of the voter-approved Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has begun a roadway widening project on US 60 (Superstition Freeway). This widening project will result in one additional east and westbound lane between Interstate 10 (Maricopa Freeway) and Loop 101 (Price Freeway). As a result of adding these new general-purpose lanes, motorists in this corridor will benefit from improved mobility and added roadway capacity.
Project Information
- Eastbound and westbound general purpose lanes will be added from west of Hardy Drive to east of McClintock Drive
- Additional right-of-way is not required to widen this corridor
- Auxiliary lanes will be included to ease congestion and assist drivers with merging at on- and off-ramps
- Current US 60 ramp connections will remain in place; no crossroad bridge widenings
- Existing sound walls will remain in place
- Quiet pavement (rubberized asphalt) will be placed to reduce freeway noise

Latest US 60 closures or restrictions information

Late 2008 - Construction began
Spring 2010 - Construction is anticipated to be completed

The process of constructing additional general purpose lanes on US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will require traffic restrictions on freeway lanes, on- and off-ramps, as well as additional restrictions to surface streets that may impact motorists using the freeway as their preferred route of travel. Daytime and nighttime construction activities are expected throughout the project.
Throughout this project, ADOT plans to implement the following guidelines to reduce impacts to the community and provide a safe work zone:
- Full 24-hour ramp closures (30-60 days) to help accelerate construction
- Freeway lanes will not be restricted between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday
- Freeway lane closures and restrictions are generally limited to weekends or weekday overnights
ADOT is committed to providing construction information to stakeholders and welcomes your comments and feedback. For further information and to request weekly project updates, call the 24-hour project hotline at 602.787.3927 or email ADOT@hdrinc.com.
