ATTENTION…MEN & WOMEN!
LOOKING FOR A CAREER OPPORTUNITY?
CONSIDER THE HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION TRADES!

Applications are now being accepted for a six-week, full day pre-employment training class in highway construction. The class is designed to:

  1. Provide highway construction employers with qualified female and minority applicants, and non-minority males;
  2. To assist applicants in meeting or exceeding employer requirements by providing skills enhancement and career exploration activities;
  3. This class leads to jobs/careers in the skilled trades.

Classes are held around the state. Call for the location nearest you.

The focus is on recruiting women and minorities, though all are welcome. No prior experience is required.

Call for dates of next class in the location nearest you. All classes will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

To qualify:  Applicants must be 18 years or older, be interested in working outdoors, and preferably have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and. You must have your own transportation and a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one by the end of class. Applications will be date and time stamped and class roster will be formed with two criteria: preference to group (women, minority males) and when the application is received.

All applicants will be required to attend an orientation before class. Memos will be sent to all applicants with the information two weeks prior to class.

Cost:  Free – the program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration.

Program may include:

  • Orientation to highway construction opportunities
  • Field trips to job sites and training sites
  • Hands-on experience in: welding, carpentry, blue print reading, electrical, piping trades, heavy equipment operation, painting, computer literacy, the use and care of tools, & more!
  • Introduction to employers
  • Strength training
  • Math review
  • OSHA Training
  • Flagging Certification
