Pre-Apprenticeship Class Syllabus

Orientation		3 hours
Math Overview		20 hours (Minimum time. More if needed by participant)
Strength Training		8 hours per week
Use and Care of Tools		5 hours (minimum)\
OSHA Certification Training		10-16 hours
Flagging Certification Training		5 hours
Computer Literacy and keyboarding		10 hours
Blueprint Reading and Drawing		5 hours (minimum)\
Introduction to welding		20 hours (minimum) \
Carpentry		20 hours (minimum)  \_____ add other crafts as able
Pipe Trades		15 hours (minimum)  /
Electrical Trades		15 hours (minimum) /
Cement Trades		15 hours (minimum)/
Other crafts include iron worker, painter, heavy equipment operator, bricklayers, fence erectors. Hands on activities include the field trips to job sites and apprenticeship training sites.
Resume Preparation		4 hours
Overview of Opportunities in		35 hours
Highway Construction to include:
the following:
	General Highway Terminology
	Exploration of highway careers with employers
	Panel discussions with women currently employed in the field
	Structured worksite field experiences
	Mentorship connections for women in the program

The primary purpose for the student is twofold:

• To prepare the student as well as possible to enter the program or employment of their choice
• To provide the student with enough experiences to make an informed choice of which program to enter.
