Suggestion Form

The Arizona Transportation Research Center accepts research proposals from anyone. After thorough review, ADOT's Research Council, consisting of senior managers, select the proposals deemed most valuable.

Research proposals may be submitted either online (in the form below) or in hard copy. The form is also available in Word or Adobe PDF formats. Printed forms may be given to any ATRC staff member.

Title:
Descriptive title of proposed research.
Problem Description:
Provide background on the problem and summarize key issues related to the problem.
What is the nature of the problem needing solution? What aspects of the problem are especially significant? How does the problem affect transportation facilities or services?
Literature Search Summary:
Summarize the literature search performed related to the problem. (ATRC can assist with the literature search.)
Summarize the results of a literature search related to this problem. Minimum searches should include TRIS online (http://ntl.bts.gov/tris) and the Research In Progress database (http://rip.trb.org/search). Contact ATRC for assistance, if necessary
Research Objectives:
Clearly state the objectives of the proposed research, i.e., what the research will accomplish or what type of information it will provide.
What research do you propose to solve the problem and what are the objectives?
Affected Groups:
List the affected ADOT groups as well as external entities.
If uncertain, review this information with ATRC staff.
Anticipated Benefits:
Discuss the potential benefits of this research, e.g., improved safety, cost savings, more efficient processes, help in decision-making, etc.
If this research is successfully completed, what benefits will ADOT or other entities realize? What is their value?
Expected Implementation:
Describe how the research results will be implemented or deployed. If possible, describe the base case for implementation comparison in terms of current costs, safety, processes, etc.
How will the results of this research be implemented? Who will be responsible for the implementation? Will follow-up research be needed? If possible, estimate the cost of implementation?
Project Champion and Sponsor:
ATRC staff can assist with identifying a project Champion and Sponsor.
Champion: person who supports, assists & enables project.
Project Sponsor: person with authority to implement results.
Estimated Budget Amount and Funding Sources—
ATRC budget suggested: Other funding sources and amounts (if applicable):

Estimate the total budget and discuss potential funding sources in addition to ADOT research program funding.
Estimated Duration:
Estimate the number of months or years to complete the project.
