Guardrail repair and construction work scheduled on Interstate 10 near Benson next week

Lane restrictions scheduled next week for both Benson-area projects

March 14, 2012

Motorists on Interstate 10 near the junction with State Route 90 will encounter lane closures next week as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues working on construction of new eastbound interstate lanes and makes repairs to a damaged guardrail east of the interchange project at Pomerene Road.

The lane closures are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Monday (March 19) when the left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed approaching the Pomerene Road (Exit 306) to allow crews to repair guardrail damaged by a vehicle. That closure will remain in effect around-the-clock until the repairs are completed on Wednesday (March 21).

The posted speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph approaching the work zone. The Pomerene Road off ramp will remain open during work hours.

Starting Wednesday (March 21) daily lane restrictions will be in effect on both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-10 to allow trucks to enter and exit the work area where construction of new eastbound I-10 lanes continues. The following lane closures are scheduled:

  • From 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily beginning Wednesday (March 21) through Friday (March 23) the left lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed from approximately one mile west of the junction with SR 90 (Exit 302) to one mile east of the SR 90 interchange.
  • From 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily beginning Wednesday (March 21) through Friday (March 23) the left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed from one mile east of the SR 90 interchange to Exit 302.

This work is part of ADOT's $27.6 million project to replace the I-10 overpass at SR 90 west of Benson and to replace a curving segment of I-10 west of the junction, as well as improving State Route 90 near the overpass.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
