Lane closures begin on eastbound Interstate 10 near Benson following Labor Day weekend
I-10 closures will be around the clock until mid-October, SR 80 exit to close for nearly two weeks
August 31, 2011
Eastbound Interstate 10 will be reduced to one lane east of the State Route 90 in Cochise County starting the day after the Labor Day weekend and continuing around the clock until mid-October while the Arizona Department of Transportation reconstructs a two-mile section of interstate.
Starting at 5 a.m. Tuesday (September 6), the right lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed from immediately east of the SR 90 interchange (Exit 302) to Ocotillo Road (Exit 304). The lane closure is scheduled to remain in effect until the evening of Monday (September 19).
During this closure, the exit off eastbound I-10 onto State Route 80 (Exit 303) will be closed. Motorists will be required to exit at either Ocotillo Avenue or Pomerene Road (Exit 306) to access SR 80.
All eastbound traffic will use the left lane and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the closure area, including weekends when crews will not be working.
On the morning of Tuesday (September 20), ADOT will close the left lane of eastbound I-10 in the same area to remove and replace that portion of highway. Traffic will move onto the right lane during this lane closure and the exit from I-10 onto SR 80 will reopen.
The left lane closure and reduced speeds are scheduled to remain in effect around the clock until mid-October when both eastbound lanes will be open to traffic.
The work, part of the $27.6 million ADOT project to replace the traffic interchange at I-10 and SR 90, is intended to provide a smoother driving experience for motorists.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. Drivers are advised to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
