Motorists traveling on Interstate 10 near Benson will encounter lane closures on two days next week while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues construction of a new segment of highway as part of the State Route 90 interchange project.
On Wednesday (Jan. 4) and Friday (Jan. 6), lane closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. for both eastbound and westbound traffic to allow trucks to haul asphalt for a new temporary detour to be constructed on eastbound I-10 west of the interchange at Exit 302.
• The left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed from three-quarters of a mile east of the SR 90 overpass to three-quarters of a mile west of the interchange.
• The right lane of eastbound I-10 will be closed from a mile and a half west of the SR 90 overpass to a quarter-mile west of the interchange.
ADOT crews are recycling asphalt used in temporary detours that are no longer in use to construct another temporary detour that eastbound traffic will use west of Exit 302 while a segment of new eastbound I-10 is under construction.
The work is part of the $27.6 million project to replace the overpass west of Benson and to straighten a curving segment of I-10 west of the interchange.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
