Crews will be removing sign structures on northbound Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction on Sunday night (May 13) according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The following restrictions and closures will be in place for next week:
- Sunday (May 13) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane to move equipment into the work zone.
- Sunday (May 13) from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. northbound I-17 will have intermittent closures up to 30 minutes to allow crews to remove sign structures over the highway.
- Monday (May 14) through Thursday (May 17) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.the northbound I-17 right lane will be restricted to allow crews to haul dirt through the work zone.
Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during those hours or allow extra travel time to reach their destination.
The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/State Route 69 traffic interchange.
The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
