Traffic switch along State Route 85 in Gila Bend taking place next Wednesday

Please allow extra travel time and be prepared for possible delays

March 29, 2012

As the State Route 85 Safety and Enhancement Project progresses into its next phase, crews will transition traffic onto newly paved roads in the existing work zone beginning Tuesday (April 3). Drivers traveling between Yuma and Phoenix should allow extra travel time and be prepared for possible delays at the intersection of SR 85 and Business Route 8, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

What to expect during the traffic switch:

  • Work will take place between the hours 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Law enforcement will assist with the transition of traffic onto new roads.
  • Signs, message boards and workers will be in place to inform drivers of restrictions.

During this phase of improvements, workers will be able to continue road improvements along State Route 85 while moving northbound and southbound SR 85 traffic to the new Airport Connector Road adjoining Maricopa Road.

The new traffic configuration is expected to be in place until summer. No work is scheduled for holidays or weekends.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
