Overnight bridge work on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next

Highway closed up to 30 minutes Sunday and Monday nights

April 13, 2012

The following late night closures and restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next week as crews perform bridge work and construct a new detour, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:

  • Sunday night (April 15) between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. northbound I-17 will be closed intermittently for up to 30 minutes. In addition, northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Monday night (April 16) between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. southbound I-17 will be closed intermittently for up to 30 minutes.
  • Monday night (April 16) through Friday morning (April 20) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane overnight.

Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during those hours or allow extra travel time.

The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/State Route 69 traffic interchange.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
