The Arizona Department of Transportation began a highway improvement project on a 12.5 mile stretch of State Route 238 between the communities of Mobile and Maricopa in early July 2011. The project consists of milling and paving the roadway and installing a box culvert to improve drainage in the area.

The project is between mileposts 31 and 45, and is scheduled for completion in early 2012.
