Project History

State Route 89A in West Sedona experienced four night-time pedestrian fatalities between December 2000 and April 2006. This section of highway is a commercial corridor with two lanes in each direction and a continuous turn lane.

ADOT has been cooperatively working with the City of Sedona, its Council and the community since 2006 to address safety issues along State Route 89A. ADOT initiated safety studies at the request of the Council, identified safety improvements, participated in the City-created Pedestrian Safety Advisory Panel to evaluate safety alternatives, collected input through public forums and received Council approval to implement recommended improvements.
