San Luis Improvement Projects

Main Street Sidewalk Enhancement Project

In an effort to revitalize Main Street, the City of San Luis applied for and received a Transportation Enhancement grant in 2009. That grant has allowed ADOT to administer a federally funded project to encourage a safer pedestrian area in the downtown shopping district. The project area includes Main Street (US 95) between Urtuzuastegui Street and Juan Sanchez Boulevard Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall 2012 and should be completed by Fall 2013.

  • New pavement on Main Street between Urtuzuastegui Street and B Street
  • Widened sidewalks
  • New curb and gutters
  • Improved drainage
  • New pedestrian cross walk
  • New parking
  • Raised medians
  • Improved landscaping
  • New street lights and luminaries
  • Handicap access ramps

New Traffic Flow on Main Street:

Motorists traveling southbound on Main Street (US 95) will be directed to a new cul-de-sac at the intersection of Main Street and Urtuzuastegui Street and will not be able to continue to the San Luis Port of Entry (POE) from Main Street. Southbound motorists wishing to access the POE will be directed to Archibald Street. The new roundabout that is being built as part of the San Luis Street Improvement Project at US 95 and D Street is intended to allow flexibility for motorists without having to come to a complete stop.
