San Luis Improvement Projects

Project Update

The Arizona State Transportation Board awarded the San Luis Improvements Project on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at their meeting in Casa Grande. The project is began construction on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014.

The project consisted of four phases. The first phase of the project consisted of work at the port of entry (POE) and storm pipe installation along Urtuzuastegui, B and C Streets as well as repaving and improving Archibald Street to accommodate southbound POE traffic.

This phase took approximately three months to complete. During this phase, Friendship Park was to be closed to the public for safety reasons.

San Luis Phases

Now complete, the downtown San Luis area offers the community more safety features for bicyclists and pedestrians while making it more convenient for port traffic to enter and exit the country.

One thing to keep in mind is that commercial vehicles can no longer be accommodated on Main Street since it is a local traffic only road.
