The newly constructed bridges and roadway on US 191 in Sanders will be partially opened to traffic starting Thursday, Nov. 21.
Traffic is being put on the new alignment so the old roadway and bridges can be removed. The newly constructed ramps and frontage roads on the west side of the I-40 / Sanders interchange will also be reopened while the ramps and frontage roads on the east side of the interchange will be closed for reconstruction.
To access the Sanders area from westbound I-40, or to use US 191 south, motorists can travel five miles past the Sanders exit to the Chambers interchange, turn around and come back to exit at Sanders.
Traffic coming from south US 191 or the Sanders area wishing to travel east on I-40 will also need to travel west to the Chambers interchange to turn around.
Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. During that time, there will be narrowed traffic lanes, and the speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph through the work zone. Drivers may experience brief delays at times.
