State Route 79 Coronado Wash Bridge

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, will begin construction in early December 2013 on the Coronado Wash Bridge, located approximately 30 miles southeast of Florence on State Route 79, from approximately milepost 101 to milepost 102. Construction includes removal of the existing structure in two phases and replacing it with a new concrete bridge, removing and replacing roadway and bridge guardrails, and widening the roadway to match the new bridge approaches. All work will occur within ADOT right of way. The project will begin in early December 2013 and is anticipated to be completed by winter 2014.

Bridge and Roadway Improvements
  • Removing/replacing bridge at Coronado Wash
  • Extending and/or removing and replacing drainage pipes
  • Enhancing bridge support and bank protection
  • Removing/replacing the guardrail along the roadway on either side of the bridge
  • Realigning and widening the roadway to match new bridge approaches
  • Paving and restriping new roadway surface
Construction Traffic Impacts
  • At least one travel lane will remain open at all times during construction.
  • Traffic control will be provided to facilitate alternating northbound and southbound traffic.
  • Roadway closures will not exceed 15 minutes at a time.
  • Warning signs and flaggers for traffic will be provided.
  • Property and business access will be maintained during construction.
