Interstate 8 and Giss Parkway Interchange

The Arizona Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration have identified the need to improve safety and ease congestion at the interchange of westbound Interstate 8 and Giss Parkway in Yuma. According to 2015 average annual daily traffic counts collected, this interchange is currently used by 11,000 vehicles per day.

A $1.8 million, seven-month project to construct a two-lane modern roundabout at the intersection is scheduled to begin in March 2017.  Work will also include improving drainage, intersection lighting, signage and lane striping, and making cyclist accommodations. “Share The Road” signs will be installed, as well as bicycle entrance ramps to the shared-use pathway through the roundabout.

Impacts to Traffic

Drivers should expect closures of I-8 westbound ramps while work is underway and use alternate routes, including the 16th Street exit.

ADOT will maintain two-way traffic on Giss Parkway, as well as access to businesses in the work zone.
