Bicycle/Pedestrian Information

The I-10 and Sunset Road projects have been designed to minimize impacts to users of the Chuck Huckelberry Loop to the greatest extent possible. However, some restrictions and short-term closures will be required for the safety of trail users.

I-10 Loop Underpasses at the Rillito River and Cañada del Oro Wash

The I-10 underpasses are expected to remain open with overhead protection for Loop users except during certain high-risk activities such as bridge demolition, girder placement, etc. The contractor will be allowed to close the underpasses for up to five days during this work. When these activities are scheduled, notices will be provided approximately two weeks prior to a closure. Only one underpass at a time will be affected. (The contractor will not be allowed to close both the Rillito River and CDO underpasses at the same time.)

Loop in the vicinity of the Sunset Road Extension Work

The trail along the south bank of the Rillito River from I-10 to Camino de la Tierra is expected to remain open to users throughout the project. A short detour will be required in the vicinity of the bridge crossing.

The dead-end trail along the north bank of the Rillito River from the Ethan Crossing parking area to Camino de la Tierra will be closed during the project. It will reopen once construction is complete.

Loop on the west side of I-10 near Sunset Road

The alternate Loop route on the south side of Sunset Road from the Santa Cruz River to the I-10 frontage road along with the route adjacent to the I-10 frontage road south of Sunset Road to Diamond Street will be closed during the project. It will reopen once construction is complete.

The pathway on the north side of Sunset Road and the paths along the Santa Cruz River will remain open throughout the project.
