Bridge improvement project to close McConnell Drive under I-17 for six weeks

Use alternate routes to travel between NAU and west Flagstaff

PHOENIX – A project to improve the Interstate 17/SR 89A bridge approaching Flagstaff will require a six-week closure of McConnell Drive beginning Monday, July 8, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

McConnell Drive will be closed in both directions between Pine Knoll Drive and Beulah Boulevard around the clock Monday, July 8, through Monday, Aug. 19.

For access to Northern Arizona University during the closure, drivers can use Milton Road to University Drive to Knoles Drive. For access to west Flagstaff, motorists can use Milton Road to Forest Meadows Street to Beulah Boulevard.

The closure is expected to be lifted before fall semester classes begin.

The project involves a full bridge deck replacement, bridge widening and sidewalk construction on the north side of McConnell Drive and is scheduled in three phases over two years with completion scheduled for fall 2020.
