I-10 lane restrictions in Casa Grande scheduled this week

Heavy delays expected between Florence Boulevard, I-8

PHOENIX ‒ Drivers on Interstate 10 should expect significant delays in the Casa Grande area this week as Arizona Department of Transportation crews pave new lanes as part of a freeway widening project.

Restrictions will be in place both eastbound and westbound beginning Wednesday, May 29, and will continue until Monday, June 3. Work is scheduled to begin daily at 6 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.

The speed limit in the work area will be reduced to 45 mph to protect work crews who will be near travel lanes. Maximum vehicle width during the work will be 12 feet. Arizona DPS officers will be in the area for traffic control.

Other planned restrictions on Thursday, May 30, include:

  • From 6 to 9 a.m., the eastbound right lane will be closed between Florence Boulevard (milepost 194) and milepost 196.
  • From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the eastbound exit ramp to Jimmie Kerr Boulevard will have intermittent closures. Drivers can use Sunland Gin Road (exit 200) as an alternate.
  • From 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. on Friday, May 31, eastbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane for striping from Florence Boulevard (milepost 194) to I-8 (milepost 200).

On Friday, May 31, restrictions include:

  •  From 6 to 9 a.m., the westbound right lane will be closed from Sunland Gin Road to I-8 (milepost 199-200).
  •  From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., the ramp from westbound I-10 to westbound I-8 will be closed. Drivers can take exit 200 (Sunland Gin Road) to access the I-8 on-ramp.
  •  From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the on-ramp from Jimmie Kerr Boulevard to westbound I-10 will experience intermittent closures. Drivers can use Sunland Gin Road as an alternate.
  •  From 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, westbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane for striping between mileposts 200 and 195.

The work is part of a $36 million project to widen I-10 to six lanes between Earley Road and I-8. The project, which also includes new bridges over Jimmie Kerr Boulevard, is scheduled for completion by late summer.
