I-40 to be closed first weekend in October at Bellemont interchange

Nightly closures starting week of Oct. 7; Transwestern Road also closed

PHOENIX – As crews continue replacing the bridge at the Bellemont traffic interchange along Interstate 40 west of Flagstaff, the Arizona Department of Transportation will close the freeway in both directions under the bridge the weekend of Oct. 4-7 and then overnight Oct. 7-10.

Traffic will detour along the off- and on-ramps while the freeway is closed at the Bellemont/Transwestern Road interchange.

The weekend closure is scheduled from 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, through 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7. I-40 also will be closed at the interchange nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday, Oct. 7, through Thursday, Oct. 10.

Transwestern Road will also be closed at the interchange from 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, though 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

During the closures, drivers who ordinarily use the Bellemont/Transwestern Road interchange can use the I-40 interchanges at Parks and A-1 Mountain Boulevard.

The project will improve the bridge deck and pavement and widen on- and off-ramps at the Interstate 40 Bellemont/Transwestern Road interchange.
