Internal Nondiscrimination Programs

Overview

Unique to the Arizona Department of Transportation, as a State Transportation Agency and recipient of Federal funds, is the requirement to develop and administer an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program (hereafter Internal Nondiscrimination Compliance Programs) under the Federal-aid Highway Act of 1968 and Title 23 Code of Federal (CFR) Regulations, Part 230-Subpart C.  The purpose of the Internal Nondiscrimination Compliance Programs is to ensure equal treatment for persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability or genetics in all employment practices.

What Does This Mean?

All ADOT employment actions/decisions must be made solely based on an incumbent employee’s or potential employee’s ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position for which they have been or are being hired regardless of their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability or genetics in all employment practices.  These employment actions/decisions include but are not limited to:

  • Hiring
  • Disciplinary action
  • Leave approval
  • Receipt of benefits
  • Salary Compensation
  • Training
  • Work assignments
  • Termination
