I-10 Avondale Boulevard to I-17 Pavement Improvement Project

Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation is improving and preserving the pavement on Interstate 10 from Avondale Boulevard to 67th Avenue and from 43rd Avenue to Interstate 17. The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the existing roadway.
Project Elements
- Removing the existing asphalt pavement and repairing existing concrete pavement
- Diamond grinding existing concrete pavement to provide a smooth roadway surface
- Modifying existing westbound I-10 between 67th Avenue and Avondale Boulevard by reducing the shoulder to create an additional travel lane on I-10
- Modifying existing travel lane on the southbound State Route 101 Loop to westbound I-10 ramp to create two lanes
- Replacing pavement markings, striping, signage and other miscellaneous work

Project Schedule
- Construction began in the summer of 2021 and is expected to take 12 months to complete. Schedule subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen factors.

Southbound Loop 101 closed between Camelback and Indian School Roads this weekend (Jan. 14-15)
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers who use southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley to plan for the following closure, for overhead sign work.
- Southbound Loop 101 between Camelback and Indian School roads will be closed from 2 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16.
- The southbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Cardinals Way, Maryland Avenue and Glendale Avenue will also be closed during this time.
DETOUR: Drivers should consider exiting ahead of the closure and using alternate routes including southbound 99th Avenue to travel beyond the closure.
This work is part of the I-10 Avondale Boulevard to I-17 Pavement Improvement Project.
Please remember to slow down and use caution around highway construction workers and equipment.
