Westbound Loop 101 to close this weekend in north Phoenix for widening project
Drivers should expect delays, consider alternate routes
The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers who use Loop 101 in north Phoenix to plan for a westbound closure this weekend.
The closure is scheduled to begin Friday night, March 8.
ADOT advises drivers to slow down and use caution while the following closures are in place:
- Westbound Loop 101 between Cave Creek Road and Seventh Street from 10 p.m. Friday, March 8, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 11.
Motorists should expect heavy traffic in and around the closure area and consider using the following recommended detours:
- Westbound Loop 101 traffic: Exit at Cave Creek Road and detour along the Beardsley frontage road before re-entering the freeway at Seventh Street. To limit delays, drivers should consider exiting ahead of the closure, either at Tatum Boulevard or State Route 51.
- Westbound alternative routes: Union Hills Drive and Deer Valley Road.
- Northbound SR 51 to westbound Loop 101 traffic: Exit SR 51 at Union Hills Drive and travel west on Union Hills Drive to Seventh Street or Seventh Avenue to Loop 101.
The closure is needed as initial work continues on a two-year project to add new travel lanes on a 13-mile segment of Loop 101 between Interstate 17 in Phoenix and Pima Road in Scottsdale.
Work on the Loop 101 Improvement project is scheduled to last through early 2021.
