Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) Improvement Project – Interstate 17 to Pima Road: Road closures, restrictions July 19-25

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers on the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) to slow down and use caution while the following restrictions are scheduled to be in place:

Weekend Closure

Pima Freeway, Seventh Avenue to Seventh Street

  • The eastbound Pima Freeway will be closed between Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street from 10 p.m. Friday, July 19, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 22.

    • The north- and southbound I-17 ramps to eastbound Pima Freeway and eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramps at 27th, 19th and Seventh avenues also will be closed.

    Upcoming Closures

    Scottsdale Road at the Pima Freeway

    • North- and southbound Scottsdale Road will be closed at the Pima Freeway nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, July 22, to the morning of Friday, July 26. 
    • NOTE: Scottsdale Road will be reduced to one southbound lane and two northbound lanes between Chauncey Lane and Mayo Boulevard from July 22, through September due to waterline work by the city of Scottsdale. Drivers should consider alternate routes as this work zone will impact traffic at the Pima Freeway interchange.

    Pima Freeway, Cave Creek Road to State Route 51

    • The eastbound Pima Freeway will be closed between Cave Creek Road and State Route 51 from 10 p.m. Friday, July 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 29.

    56th Street at the Pima Freeway

    • North-and southbound 56th Street will be closed at the Pima Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday,
      July 26, to 5 a.m. Monday, July 29.

    Ongoing Closure

    15th Avenue bridge at the Pima Freeway

    • The 15th Avenue bridge over the Pima Freeway remains closed to north- and southbound traffic through late 2020 for reconstruction and other improvements.

    New Restrictions

    32nd Street at the Pima Freeway

    • 32nd Street will be narrowed to one lane in each direction underneath the Pima Freeway – between Mohawk Lane and Tonopah Drive – from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday, July 19, and from Monday, July 22, through Wednesday, July 24.

    Ongoing Restrictions

    Pima Freeway frontage road at 15th Avenue

    • The eastbound Pima Freeway frontage road between 17th and 15th avenues is restricted to one lane weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Aug. 16.

    Seventh Street at the Pima Freeway

    • The north-and southbound Seventh Street left-turn bays to the east-and westbound Pima Freeway are reduced to one lane throughout construction of the Seventh Street bridge.

    Cave Creek Road at the Pima Freeway

    • The westbound Loop 101 frontage road west of Cave Creek Road is restricted to two lanes.
    • Left turns from northbound Cave Creek Road to the westbound Pima Freeway are restricted to one lane.

    56th Street at the Pima Freeway

    • The north- and southbound 56th Street left-turn bays to the east- and westbound Pima Freeway are reduced to one lane through construction of the 56th Street bridge.

    Scottsdale Road at the Pima Freeway

    • The eastbound Pima Freeway on-ramp at Scottsdale Road and eastbound freeway auxiliary lane are closed through August.
    • The westbound Pima Freeway off-ramp and westbound freeway auxiliary lane at Scottsdale Road are closed through August.

    Hayden Road at the Pima Freeway

    • The eastbound Pima Freeway off-ramp at Hayden Road and the eastbound freeway auxiliary lane at Scottsdale Road are closed through August.
    • The westbound Pima Freeway on-ramp and the westbound freeway auxiliary lane at Hayden Road are closed through August.
    • The westbound Pima Freeway frontage road between Hayden and Scottsdale roads is restricted through August.

    The closures are needed as work continues on the ADOT construction project that will add one new general-purpose lane in each direction on the Pima Freeway between I-17 and Pima Road.
