Blowout Wash Bridge to receive new deck, other improvements

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for an extended closure of Pima Street east of Old Town Cottonwood beginning Nov. 14, as crews begin to rehabilitate Blowout Wash Bridge.

The following daytime restrictions, which will be in place through early 2023, are scheduled to be in place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays:

  • Pima Street, between Second and Third streets, will be closed to all traffic.
  • Detour: Drivers east of the bridge will use Third, Fourth and Fifth streets to travel south to Main Street.
  • Drivers west of the bridge will have access to Main Street from Pima Street.
  • No evening or weekend work is anticipated during the construction project..

The rehab work, which will extend the life of the bridge, consists of replacing the existing bridge deck, which is the top part of the bridge that vehicles drive on. Other work includes replacing the bridge railing, reconstructing the roadway approaches and other related work.
