The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for lane restrictions on southbound Interstate 17 south of Flagstaff starting Tuesday, Oct. 12, as a project to install fiber optic cable begins along the roadway.

Drivers should slow down, proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel while the following restrictions are in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 6 a.m. to noon on Fridays:

  • Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between mileposts 333 and 337 from Tuesday, Oct. 12, to Friday, Oct. 15.
  • A vehicle width limit of 16 feet will be in place. Oversize vehicles can be accommodated with advance notice.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.

The project, which is expected to continue through mid-2022, will work its way south along I-17 in segments of three to five miles per week.
