Interstate 40 Cottonwood Wash bridges improvement project

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are performing bridge-improvement work on the Cottonwood Wash bridges on I-40 between milepost 258.93 and 260.05, approximately 5 miles east of the city of Winslow.

The project includes removing and replacing the existing bridge decks and reconstructing the roadway bridge approaches.

This project will be completed in two phases, beginning with work on eastbound I-40 in early April 2018. Construction will pause for the winter season and is scheduled to resume in spring 2019 on westbound I-40, with an expected completion date of late 2019.

What to Expect
  • Traffic will be shifted onto temporary crossovers between the eastbound and westbound travel lanes across the bridges
  • The speed limit in the construction zone will be reduced to 55 MPH
  • Drivers are advised to plan for slow traffic and allow extra travel time
