Interstate 40: Fourth Street Bridge Replacement and Butler Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation, Flagstaff

Public Meeting Document

This project will provide additional capacity for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians on Fourth Street in Flagstaff. The improvements are possible because of a partnership between the Arizona Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and the city of Flagstaff. The I-40 Butler Avenue Overpass also will be improved, with the bridge decks resurfaced and sloped pavement repaired.

Construction is currently anticipated to occur from spring to fall 2020, and will include the innovative “bridge slide” method to accelerate the bridge construction.  View more information on accelerated bridge construction.

The engineering design has taken into special consideration the maintenance of traffic during construction.
