Interstate 40 - Fourth Street Bridge widening and Butler Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation, Flagstaff

Construction has started on a project to provide additional capacity for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians on the Fourth Street bridge in Flagstaff. The improvements are possible because of a partnership between the Arizona Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and the city of Flagstaff. The I-40 Butler Avenue bridge also will be improved, with the bridge decks resurfaced and sloped pavement repaired.

The project team is using the innovative “bridge slide” method to accelerate the bridge construction.  View more information on accelerated bridge construction.

The engineering design has taken into special consideration the maintenance of traffic during construction.
