Interstate 40: Meteor City Bridge Improvement

The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are performing bridge-improvement work on the Meteor City bridges on Interstate 40 at milepost 239, approximately 15 miles west of the city of Winslow and six miles west of the turnoff for the Meteor Crater natural landmark.

The project includes removing and replacing the existing bridges and reconstructing the roadway bridge approaches.

Construction is scheduled through late summer.

What to Expect:

  • East and westbound traffic is being shifted onto the off- and on-ramps alongside I-40 through the construction zone.
  • Drivers are advised to plan for very slow traffic and allow extra travel time.
  • The speed limit in the construction zone is reduced to 45mph.
