Interstate 40: West Flagstaff Bridge Replacement

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration, is planning the rehabilitation and replacement of both the east- and westbound West Flagstaff Bridges on Interstate 40. The project is approximately 3 miles west of the junction with Interstate 17 at milepost 192 in Flagstaff.

The project consists of removing the existing east- and westbound bridge substructure and superstructure. Construction is anticipated to begin in April 2021. The project will occur within ADOT right-of-way and easements.

What to expect

Throughout construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. During the winter season, October through March, a minimum of two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained. Closures of the eastbound off- and on-ramps and cross-road access from March through October will be required, during which time traffic will be detoured to the Flagstaff Ranch Road traffic interchange approximately one mile east of the project.
