SR 87 Erosion Repair at Milepost 230

Project Cost: $650,000

The Arizona Department of Transportation is initiating an erosion repair project on northbound State Route 87 approximately 30 miles south of Payson (milepost 230). The project is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed in late summer 2022.

Project Elements

The primary purpose of the project is to address severe erosion encroaching on the roadway that is creating damage to the adjacent slope and drainage features. If not repaired, the erosion will eventually damage the roadway and create hazards to motorists.

Additional work will include, but is not limited to:

  • Removal and replacement of damaged concrete around the culvert.
  • Removal of vegetation, as needed.
  • Removing and replacing pavement on the shoulder, as needed.

The work will require the temporary removal of guardrail to create an access route to the work areas as well as installing temporary traffic control devices along the roadway while the repair work is underway.

What to Expect During Construction

Northbound SR 87 will be reduced to one lane from Monday mornings through Thursday evenings for the duration of construction. The restricted lane reopens on Friday mornings. No work is scheduled during weekends.
