This project has been paused due to winter weather conditions and
will resume in spring 2023.
Overview
Project Cost: $3,994,822
The Arizona Department of Transportation is initiating a project to improve a nine-mile stretch of State Route 87 south of Payson. The pavement life extension project is located in Gila County, from north of the community of Rye to Indian Road (mileposts 241 - 250), with a portion located within the Tonto National Forest. The work consists primarily of removing and replacing the existing asphalt surface.
Paving is scheduled to begin in September 2022 and completion is anticipated in the spring of 2023.
What to expect:
While paving is underway, motorists will encounter daytime lane restrictions and travel delays. Throughout the project, one lane will be open to traffic in each direction. ADOT advises drivers to plan for possible delays while the work is underway.
