Traffic Alerts - US 191 Chinle - Black Mountain Wash Shoulder Widening
US 191 narrowed to one lane only of alternating travel between the communities of Chinle and Many Farms through November
Drivers should expect delays
The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following travel restriction on US 191 between Chinle and Many Farms (mileposts 448-460) in far northeastern Arizona:
- US 191 will be reduced to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays beginning Sept. 6, through November.
- Flaggers and a pilot car will direct traffic through the work zone.
- The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
- Drivers should be prepared to stop when approaching the work zone.
- The restrictions will be lifted each day after work hours and during the weekend.
Crews need the lane closures to safely complete shoulder widening improvements, turnout improvements, and corrugated metal pipe extensions.
Closures and restrictions will be in place until winter shutdown, then resume in the spring of 2023 for the duration of the 12-mile shoulder widening project.
