Overview
Project Cost: $17.1 million
The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed a shoulder widening project on US 191 in northeastern Arizona. The project boundary is roughly between Chinle and about nine miles south of Many Farms on the Navajo Nation (milepost 448 – 460).
Project Elements
The purpose of the project is to improve safety by widening the shoulder on both sides of the roadway to reduce run-off road and rollover crashes.
The work includes, but is not limited to:
- Installing rumble strips on centerline and shoulders
- Installing pavement markings
- Installing traffic delineators, as required
- Replacing signs and pavement markers, as necessary
What to Expect During Construction
Construction will result in traffic restrictions for the traveling public. The roadway within the project boundary will be reduced to one lane of alternating north- and southbound travel through the construction zone. A pilot car will lead traffic through the work zone during construction.
