Raised Median Safety Improvement Project

The Arizona Department of Transportation is planning a highway safety improvement project to install a raised median on State Route 68 in Golden Valley, from Verde Road to Bacobi Road. SR 68 Verde Road Project Location Map

The purpose of this project is to improve the efficient movement of people and goods along SR 68 while enhancing safety, by improving access control throughout the corridor.

This project will include the removal of the existing pavement and installation of a raised median from Verde Road to Bacobi Road.

Project Overview

  • This project will include the removal of the existing pavement and installation of a raised median from Verde Road to Bacobi Road. 
  • Installing eight access points at:
    • Verde Road, westbound left-turn lane. 
    • Marana Road, T-intersection median opening with eastbound left-turn lane and eastbound acceleration lane. SR 68 Verde Road Project Raised Median
    • Mayer Road, T-intersection median opening with eastbound left-turn lane and eastbound acceleration lane.
    • Adobe Road, full intersection median opening with left turns in both directions.
    • Aztec Road, full intersection median opening with left-turn lanes in both directions.
    • Hope Road, eastbound left-in only access with left-turn lanes in both directions.
    • Bacobi Road, eastbound left-turn lane. 
  • Construction of new curb and gutter at median with decomposed granite as surface cover. 

What to Expect During Construction

  • One travel lane will remain open in each direction.
  • Motorists should be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zones.
  • Business access will be maintained at all times during construction.

Project Schedule

Planning is underway for construction to begin and finish in the spring (2021). More information will be posted prior to the work.
