Project Phasing - I-10: Ruthrauff Road Traffic Interchange
The project will be completed in three major phases, followed by a cleanup phase.
*Please note, adjustments to the plan are possible for construction, safety or traffic flow needs.
Phase 1
Jan. to spring 2020
Early in Phase 1
- Intermittent lane restrictions throughout the work zone
- Construction of Chester Way and Maryvale Avenue extension
- Utility and other work preparations for the full interchange closure on El Camino del Cerro and Ruthrauff Road
Late in Phase 1 (starts Feb. 15)
- Ramps between I-10 and Ruthrauff Road/El Camino del Cerro and adjacent sections of frontage road to close
- Ramp from westbound I-10 to Ruthrauff Road to remain open only for business access to the westbound frontage road
Phase 2
Spring 2020 to winter 2020/2021
- Interchange (ramps, frontage roads and Ruthrauff/El Camino del Cerro) closed to all traffic at I-10
- Westbound I-10 shifted to the westbound frontage road
- Eastbound I-10 shifted to westbound I-10
- Ramp from westbound I-10 to provide access to westbound frontage road businesses
- Eastbound I-10 frontage road converted to a two-way road south of Sunset Road for business access
- Work on the new Highway Drive/Davis Avenue underpass begins after Chester Way and Maryvale Avenue open to traffic
Phase 3 (Current Phase)
Winter 2020/2021 to Late 2021
- Interchange remains closed to all traffic at I-10
- Eastbound and westbound I-10 share new eastbound I-10 lanes
- Ramp from westbound I-10 to provide access to westbound frontage road businesses
- Eastbound I-10 frontage road converted to a two-way road south of Sunset Road for business access
- Work continues on Highway Drive/Davis Avenue underpass
- Ruthrauff Road/El Camino del Cerro reopens over I-10 in late summer 2021 for cross traffic only
