Project Phasing - I-10: Ruthrauff Road Traffic Interchange

The project will be completed in three major phases, followed by a cleanup phase.

*Please note, adjustments to the plan are possible for construction, safety or traffic flow needs.

Phase 1

Ruthrauff Phase 1 - Jan. to spring 2020

Jan. to spring 2020

Early in Phase 1

  • Intermittent lane restrictions throughout the work zone
  • Construction of Chester Way and Maryvale Avenue extension
  • Utility and other work preparations for the full interchange closure on El Camino del Cerro and Ruthrauff  Road

Late in Phase 1

  • Ramps between I-10 and Ruthrauff Road/El Camino del Cerro and adjacent sections of frontage road to close
  • Ramp from westbound I-10 to Ruthrauff Road to remain open only for business access to the westbound frontage road

Phase 2

Ruthrauff Phase 2 - Spring 2020 to winter 2020/2021

Spring 2020 to winter 2020/2021

  • Interchange (ramps, frontage roads and Ruthrauff/El Camino del Cerro) closed to all traffic at I-10
  • Westbound I-10 shifted to the westbound frontage road
  • Eastbound I-10 shifted to westbound I-10
  • Ramp from westbound I-10 to provide access to westbound frontage road businesses
  • Eastbound I-10 frontage road converted to a two-way road south of Sunset Road for business access
  • Work on the new Highway Drive/Davis Avenue underpass begins after Chester Way and Maryvale Avenue open to traffic

Phase 3

Ruthrauff Phase 3 - Winter 2020/2021 to Late 2021

Winter 2020/2021 to Late 2021

  • Interchange remains closed to all traffic at I-10
  • Eastbound and westbound I-10 share new eastbound I-10 lanes
  • Ramp from westbound I-10 to provide access to westbound frontage road businesses
  • Eastbound I-10 frontage road converted to a two-way road south of Sunset Road for business access
  • Work continues on Highway Drive/Davis Avenue underpass
  • Ruthrauff Road/El Camino del Cerro reopens over I-10 in late summer 2021 for cross traffic only
