The Arizona Department of Transportation is completing a bridge deck replacement project along Interstate 10 near Vail.

The two bridges are located at the Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road and State Route 83 interchanges.

The SR 83 bridge is scheduled to fully reopen in early June.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is adjusting the original phasing plan for the Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road bridge deck project to complete the work ahead of schedule.

Work on the bridge was scheduled to be done half at a time, which would have taken about five months. Due to reduced traffic volumes, ADOT is working with the contractor to expedite this project by completing the work all at once.

Starting in late May, the Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road bridge over eastbound I-10 will close to all traffic until late July.

Current Traffic Impacts

  • SR 83 is reduced to a single lane over I-10 with a temporary signal/flaggers controlling traffic through June 1, when it will fully reopen.
  • Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road is closed to to all traffic over I-10 through the end of July. All ramps remain open. Motorists needing to cross I-10 should use SR 83 or Houghton Road.
  • Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to a single lane near Colossal Cave/Wentworth Road while crews work at night. Traffic will detour onto the entrance and exit ramps most nights.

Schedule

Work is expected to extend through early fall 2020.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
