State Route 87 Ruins Drive Signal Projects

The Arizona Department of Transportation is completing a signal project at the intersection of State Route 87 and Ruins Drive near the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Coolidge.

Motorists may encounter occasional lane closures and intermittent delays while work is underway. Access to the National Monument and nearby businesses will be maintained at all times.

Major elements of the project include:

  • A new traffic signal
  • Median modifications on SR 87
  • Sidewalk and curb improvements

Project schedule

Crews will complete the final work for the signal project during the month of September. The system is tentatively scheduled to be activated in the second half of the month.

Motorists will encounter intermittent lane closures and delays while work is underway. Access to the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument and nearby businesses will be maintained at all times.

Once the new signal system is in place, drivers will not be allowed to make northbound-to- southbound U-turns on SR 87 at Ruins Drive. The diagram below shows the recommend traffic pattern for vehicles exiting the shopping center near Safeway once the new signal system and signs are installed.
