Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) lane and ramp restrictions scheduled Oct. 2-8

Southbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to two lanes and on- and off-ramp lane restrictions and intermittent ramp closures are scheduled at times between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5. Drivers may use the next on- or off-ramp along the freeway or follow the posted detour signs. Consecutive on- and off-ramps will not be closed simultaneously.

Southbound Loop 101 will be narrowed to three lanes nightly between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 5, ending Thursday morning, Oct. 8.

Note: Restrictions could conclude earlier than scheduled, and traffic management setup will be adjusted as needed.

Law enforcement officers will be on site and the speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.

Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the City of Scottsdale, widened Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) between Princess Drive/Pima Road and Shea Boulevard by one general-purpose lane in each direction and modified existing interchanges to improve traffic flow on Loop 101 and the cross streets. Construction was completed in early 2026.

Construction on the final surface of the roadway began in April 2026 and was completed in June 2026. Crews used the concrete pavement treatment known as diamond grinding and replaced lane striping and other pavement markings.

What to Expect

Final lane striping and electrical work is anticipated to be completed in early Sept. Work may require lane restrictions and ramp closures and will occur primarily during overnight hours during the week and weekends to minimize traffic impacts. No full closures of Loop 101 are anticipated.
ADOT will provide advance notice of restrictions and closures to email subscribers and on the project web page.
