Northbound I-17 to be closed between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 June 7-10
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) advises drivers to allow extra time and use the designated detour route while northbound I-17 is closed this weekend between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 for a pavement improvement project.
June 7-10
- Northbound I-17 will be closed between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 from 10 p.m. Friday, June 7, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10. The following ramps also will be closed:
- The northbound I-17 on-ramps at Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads.
-
DESIGNATED DETOUR: Northbound drivers may use westbound Happy Valley Road to northbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to eastbound Loop 303 to connect to I-17 beyond the closure.
The I-17 pavement project between State Route 74 and Happy Valley Road will require additional overnight and weekend closures and restrictions in the coming months. This weekend’s work will complete the removal of the top layer of older, worn asphalt pavement before crews advance to work to smooth the remaining concrete surface through a process called diamond grinding. Diamond grinding has been used in recent years on a number of Phoenix-area freeways, including I-10, I-17, Loop 101 and Loop 202.
Drivers should use caution and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through any work zones.
