US 60/Loop 303 Traffic Interchange Improvements
US 60/Loop 303 Traffic Interchange Improvements
Contents
Overview
The Arizona Department of Transportation completed a feasibility study in 2022 to assess the US 60 and Loop 303 (Estrella Freeway) interchange and other intersections along US 60 from 163rd Avenue in Surprise to RH Johnson Boulevard in Sun City West.
The study evaluated several near-term and long-term projects to improve traffic flow and developed conceptual design plans and cost estimates for each improvement.
Near-term improvements were completed in Feb. 2026 to mitigate some traffic congestion. The improvements included additional travel lanes, dedicated turn lanes, restriping, new signs, traffic-signal timing adjustments and railroad coordination.
Long-Term Improvements
Long-term improvements at the interchange will be studied and planned for construction under MAG's Proposition 479 freeway funding program. Potential future improvements include reconfiguring the interchange and constructing new on- and off-ramps to cross the nearby BNSF Railway tracks. The first phase of long-term improvements to address congestion at Loop 303 and US 60 will begin construction in 2028, including a new traffic interchange at Loop 303 and 155th Avenue to provide additional access for residents.
