Lane Restrictions and Detours on Ajo Way, I-10, and Palo Verde Road Through Late 2025

Lane Restrictions: 

  • East-and-westbound Ajo Way between Bernard Drive and Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road will continue to be narrowed to one lane daily from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., through Friday, Dec. 5. This is a recurring daytime restriction.
  • East-and-westbound Ajo Way between Bernard Drive and Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road will continue to be closed to through traffic nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting  Monday Nov. 17th through the morning of Friday Nov. 21. This is a recurring overnight closure. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.
  • Detours: 
    • Drivers accessing eastbound Ajo Way should take Benson Highway south to Kino Parkway, then take Kino Parkway north to the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road, then take the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way east to access eastbound Ajo Way. 
    • Drivers accessing westbound Ajo Way should take Ajo Way west to the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road, then take the Kino Parkway/Ajo Way access road north to Kino Parkway, then take Kino Parkway south to Benson Highway, then take Benson Highway west to Ajo Way.
  • Eastbound I-10 at Country Club Road will be narrowed to one lane overnight from 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, through 5 a.m. on Friday, November 21. This is an overnight restriction only; all lanes will reopen during daytime hours.
  • Southbound Palo Verde Road between Irvington Road and the eastbound I-10 on ramp will be reduced to two lanes 24 hours a day starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, through the end of January 2026. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
  • East-and-westbound Irvington Road between Outlet Center Drive and Palo Verde Road will be narrowed to one lane 24 hours a day starting at 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, through mid-January 2026. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
  • Eastbound and westbound Irvington Road (under I-10) will be closed Sunday Night, Nov. 16, from 8 p.m. to Thursday Nov. 20 at 5 a.m.
  • ***New Detours: 
    • Drivers accessing southbound Country Club Road (north of I-10) take Michigan Street east to Palo Verde Road, turn right on Benson Highway to return to Irvington Road.
    • Drivers accessing southbound Palo Verde Road (north of I-10)  take south Palo Verde Road to Benson Highway, then turn right on Benson Highway to return to Irvington Road.
    • Drivers accessing westbound Irvington Road (north of I-10) take Palo Verde Road to Benson Highway, then turn right on Benson Highway to return to Irvington Road.
    • Drivers accessing northbound Palo Verde Road (north of I-10) should travel to Ajo Way, turn left on Ajo Way, and proceed to the Ajo Connector Road. Turn right on the Ajo Connector Road and then left onto Kino Parkway to return to Irvington Road.

Improving I-10 Kino to Country Club

About This Project

The Arizona Department of Transportation is making improvements to Interstate 10 in Tucson. The Interstate 10: Kino to Country Club project is the first project to come out of the Interstate 10 and State Route 210 Transportation Design Concept Report (DCR) that was completed in 2020.

The I-10: Kino to Country Club project was programmed into the 2024-2028 Five-Year Transportation Facilities Construction Program as a Design/Build in FY 25. The project is currently in construction and scheduled to be completed in summer 2028.

The State Transportation Board has awarded the design-build project to Sundt-Jacobs.

Project Elements

The project will include:

  • Reconstructing I-10 to include three general purpose lanes in each direction between milepost 262 (east of Park Avenue) and Alvernon Way 
  • Reconstructing the traffic interchange at I-10 and Kino Parkway
  • Constructing a new traffic interchange at I-10 and Country Club Road
  • Removing the traffic interchange at Palo Verde Road and I-10
  • Constructing a new I-10 westbound entrance ramp from Alvernon Way
  • Constructing an I-10 undercrossing to connect the North and South Kino Sports Complex
