Work and live at Grand Canyon National Park Airport

Join the ADOT team at the international gateway to one of the world’s most iconic landscapes! As the primary portal to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim, the Grand Canyon National Park Airport (GCN) connects global travelers with a Natural Wonder of the World. Here, your work directly supports the preservation and accessibility of a truly awe-inspiring destination.

Opportunities

  • Specialized ARFF Training: Unlike standard municipal fire roles, you’ll focus on Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF). This includes training on life-size models to simulate aircraft fires and using ARFF spec gear like a "Schnozzle" truck that can puncture fuselages to deliver firefighting foam.
  • Airport Operations: With training in compliance and regulatory knowledge: You gain a deep understanding of FAA and TSA regulations, making you a more valuable asset to airport authorities who must maintain strict legal and safety standards to stay operational.
  • Diverse Emergency Response: While you're stationed at the airport, you act as a first responder for the surrounding areas, handling motor vehicle accidents, hazardous material spills, and search and rescue missions near the South Rim.
  • State-Owned Environment: GCN is the only state-owned airport in Arizona. Airport staff work directly for ADOT and receive state employee benefits.

Why Live Here

  • Low-Cost Housing: Employees enjoy the opportunity to live at the airport in State-provided housing in newly renovated 3-bedroom, 2-bath private homes.
  • Proximity to the South Rim: The airport is less than two miles from the South Entrance Gate of Grand Canyon National Park.
  • Stunning Natural Surroundings: The airport is situated in the high-elevation ponderosa pine forest at 7,000 feet, providing a scenic and cooler environment compared to the Arizona desert floor.
  • Outdoor Recreation: Residents have immediate access to world-class hiking, biking, and outdoor activities just minutes from their front door.
  • Enjoy the Quiet Life: The airport is located 1.5 miles south of Tusayan. With a population less than 1,000 people you will enjoy fresh air, peace and quiet, and a night sky full of stars.
